Japan Innovation Park was established in Tokyo Japan to enhance the innovation between Japan and Switzerland. Japan Innovation Park as a platform helps firms to create cross-border business opportunities with our partners from Switzerland. Switzerland Innovation is the national project funded by The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) Swiss Government.
LIGHT HOUSE PROJECT INDUSTRY4.0
The Lighthouse project Industry4.0 is intended to show how Industry4.0 can already work today with an entire production ecosystem. The initiator of the project is the Swiss Smart Factory of the Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne. The Association for the Promotion of the “Swiss Smart Factory” already has 50 members and 40 of these are cooperating in the lighthouse project.

In the SWISS MEDTECH CENTER (SMTC), research, medicine and industry work on interdisciplinary innovation projects in the fields of medical technology and health technology. SWISS MEDTECH CENTER covers technologies and projects related to Medtech such as Multiple Sensor/Actuator, 3D Technology, Biomechanics and Data Analytics/AI.
SWISS BATTERY TECHNOLOGY CENTER
The SWISS BATTERY TECHNOLOGY CENTER (SBTC) conducts research and development in the vast field of energy storage. Its mission is to optimize all electrical, chemical and mechanical aspects when developing new methods and products. SWISS BATTERY TECHNOLOGY CENTER covers advanced technologies and projects related to battery such as Battery Design, Connection Technology and Thermal Management.
SWISS ADVANCED MANUFACTURING CENTER
The SWISS ADVANCED MANUFACTURING CENTER (SAMC) provides professional support for applied research in advanced manufacturing technologies with a focus on metal additive manufacturing with lasers. SWISS ADVANCED MANUFACTURING CENTER (SAMC) supports industry and research partners in research projects based on its broad industrial understanding of laser-based metal additive manufacturing (AM). SWISS ADVANCED MANUFACTURING CENTER covers technologies and projects related to manufacturing technology such and Addictive Manufacturing, Selective Laser Melting and 3D printing process optimization.

Still, it will soon get a professional make-over by one of our newest members. The workplace is equipped with a Schneider Electric iPC and a combination of an iolink master, an RFID reader, and a signal lamp from SICK Sensor Intelligence. Stay tuned for the upcoming updated workstation.

Circular TwAIn project aims: “Based on the use of trustworthy AI techniques, the project enables human-centric sustainable manufacturing, fostering the transition towards Industry 5.0 as well as the integration and combination of different data from various sources, with the intent to exploit the advantages of seamless data sharing within trusted and effective manufacturing data spaces, over the entire product life cycle considering sustainability aspects.”
Since last week, we have a new HC20 collaborative robot from YASKAWA France for the Swiss Smart Factory Lighthouse project industry4.0. It is equipped with an SMC Schweiz AG suction gripper and modified by our colleagues of the Swiss Advanced Manufacturing Center with a custom aluminum printed arm with features like optimized design and built-in air channels.
Quick teasing of the newest addition to the Swiss Smart Factory Lighthouse project industry4.0. The automated soldering station of our partners STÄUBLI, Unitechnologies SA, and Asyril SA – Experts in Flexible Feeding Systems just arrived in Stadt Biel / Ville de Bienne yesterday. Last day of our four days EMBA in Digital Technology and Operations FHGR of the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons at the SIPBB Swiss Smart Factory. Thank you to our participants for their involvement and the interesting conversations. Our Habasit / TRAPO conveyors are now integrated with our manual workstations from our partners Phoenix Mecano and Bossard Group. The connection from TIM which is our MES is done over OPCUA to the two PLC from Schneider Electric and Bosch Rexroth.

Last week one of our latest partners, OCTOTRONIC installed their first software version on our de-manufacturing station. This new station is equipped with a scale that recognizes when the dedicated step is done. The software is installed on a Schneider Electric Linux-based IPC. The station also has a #iolink master from SICK Sensor Intelligence connected to an RFID reader and a Smart lamp displaying the process status.
The TTS from TRAPO AG can carry a load of up to 2000kg. Since a few days, a new #amr has been driving through the Swiss Smart Factory. The TTS from TRAPO AG can carry a load of up to 2000kg. Palletization station design and build by TRAPO AG for our Light house project industry4.0 is now working. A FANUC Switzerland GmbH CRX10iAL collaborative robot and a suction gripper from SMC Schweiz AG built the handling system, which can handle up to 9kg, integration done by RVM Engineering SA from Stadt Biel / Ville de Bienne.

Great first experience with our newest robotic friend, a FANUC Switzerland GmbH CRX10. It is great to see the evolution in programming and usability that Fanuc did on this #cobot. The robot is currently at the Berner Fachhochschule BFH Robotic Lab to test use-cases for a new project.
First deburring action from the Schneider Electric P0 Delta Robot, this machine is designed and build by Seb’Automatisme machine for the lighthouse project of the swiss smart factory. The system is also equipped by more SSF partners, SMC Schweiz AG, Fraisa, and Balluff Schweiz. In a few weeks, the complete machine will be on display at the Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne Ltd.
On August 12th, 2021, to create opportunities, promote and enhance innovation, Ota-City Industry and Economy Department, Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne and Japan Innovation Park General Incorporated Association have entered into the Memorandum of Understanding on mutual cooperation in the field of innovation. The theme for the 1st joint collaborative program was 「Open Innovation & Manufacturing」 We took this program as an opportunity to explain the purpose of the MoU we have closed and introduce our activities as well as our newly built facilities.
A new video has been released about our work with Microsoft Switzerland, a partner of the Swiss Smart Factory. In this video, we will introduce the Azure cloud provided by Microsoft Switzerland and the future collaboration with the Swiss smart factory.

Japan Innovation Park started to support the data-management Proof of Concept to visualize CO2 emissions across manufacturing processes with the aim of transforming into a sustainable and law-carbon economy conducted by NTT, NTT Communications, SIEMENS and Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne which is a private Swiss non-profit organization managed under the national project【Switzerland Innovation】funded by The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) Swiss Government. The implementation of this Proof of Concept will start from January 2021. Japan Innovation Park supports this Proof of Concept between Japan and Switzerland. As a bridge between the two countries, Japan Innovation Park supports firms to implement a Proof of Concept which leads to business innovation of companies and take prompt actions to promote global open innovation with overseas companies and Japanese companies.
On November 6th 2020, Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne, Swiss Smart Factory held the online event “Out of the Crisis – the Role of Digital Technologies in the COVID-19 Crisis”. Mr.Koki Mitani (Senior Research Engineer, NTT Software Innovation Center) provided the presentation “Global Data Infrastructure for Data Sharing between Businesses” and Dr.Dominik Rohrmus (CTO, Labs Network Industrie 4.0/ SIEMENS AG) provided the presentation “Exclusive Insights into Gaia X – Europe’s cloud platform”. And also, Dr. Francisco Betti (Head of Shaping the Future of Advanced Manufacturing and Production) provided a presentation at this event.
August 24th, 2020, more than 50 members attended the network meeting of Swiss Smart Factory at FANUC Switzerland GmbH. Pierre Rottet and Cyril Amez gave an exclusive insight into the activities, the products and the philosphy at FANUC.
